Stop Blaming the Tools

The fitness industry is full of fads and false promise. It's an endless procession of pretty people pimping products "guaranteed" to help you finally reach your full physical potential. And America just can't get enough.

Every trendy new class, each "revolutionary" diet, all the craftily repackaged iterations of brightly-colored bands, and celebrity "secret weapons" all come with the same implied promise: "It's not your fault. You just haven't had the right tools. Until now!"

Sorry, but that's bull. Stop blaming the tools. Stop thinking you "just haven't found the right fit" for you. As much as we all like to think we're special and our lives are different and we need something different to be fit, the same stuff works for everyone.

There are no silver bullets, no short cuts, no "one weird trick," no secret moves, no cleanses, no perfect diets, no magic products that will finally make the difference. Stop chasing them. Here's a hard truth: The common denominator is you. You. You, you, you. You make the choices. You determine the effort. You own the results.

Here is what works: Eat better. Move more. Be consistent. Use whatever tools you like (as long as you're making an informed choice). But be consistent.

Here's another hard truth: It will probably be hard at first and you will probably want't to quit. Don't. And if you do…..don't blame the tools.

The end.
